Patrick Thoresen of the Philadelphia Flyers made the ultimate playoff sacrifice. As a result of blocking a shot, it looks like the young guy is going to lose a testicle. Dear Jesus.

I am bias, I admit, but to me the Montreal Canadiens have easily the best atmosphere and crowd of any pro sports team in North America. The way the city gathers around the team, reacts to everything and is just so loud is intense. I think it beats even the big football stadiums.
A video after […]

Sports Illustrated does one of their fancy photo galleries, this time since no one likes hockey, they compare NHL stars to real life stars in side-by-side shots. I’ve seen many of these over the years and they’re usually, “mm, I can kinda see that,” quality, but not this time. Some of these are downright creepy.

Alexei Kovalev, the enigmatic Russian star who had for years decided to rely solely on his talent and not bother doing things like exercising, got the message this summer and decided at 35 he wanted to be a star again. Weird, but it works for Habs fans.
Last night, he single handedly dismantled the Boston Bruins, […]

In response to some critiques of my most recent standing analysis, I started looking at new ways to improve my projections for tomorrow. One person suggested less reliance on current standings and more on recent record. The last 10 games is too small a sample, so I decided to go back to the All-Star Break. […]

Over the last week or so, I’ve done some projections of the final NHL playoff races. Today, I up the ante, with full projections of the entire league based on my formula, which I have modified somewhat.
These projections look largely at the strength of the remaining opposition and obviously upsets and streaks will change things. […]
