Nick Johnson, You’re the Next Contestant on Baseball Cancer!
Apr 2nd, 2008 by J-Bla
My fantasy first baseman is Justin “0-for-spring-training” Morneau, who’s taken his wonderful Spring Training legacy on the road and is managing a .125 OBP so far this year. So, what’s a twitchy fantasy GM to do? Pick up a hot player! Of course, with my bespeckled injurious past, I have to be careful who I select to take his place, since I’m 80 percent sure I control who lives and who dies in the framework of a Major League Baseball season. But I’m also a stats junkie trying to get by in a crazy, mixed up, gritty world, and sometimes I gotta take a chance.
So step right up, Nick Johnson, man with the career .395 OBP and 126 OPS+! You may only average 115.2 games per season thanks to a string of bizarre injuries, but something tells me you’ll fit in quite well on BALCO’s Bombers. And what’s more, Yahoo originally ranked you No. 666, so even if I do cause your spleen to rupture (60-day DL), it’ll be the most I’ve done to advance the forces of Light in years.
