More Baseball Cancer: Grandpa Smoltz Misses Start
Mar 21st, 2008 by J-Bla
I’m sorry, Braves fans. This one was my fault. I own that:
John Smoltz doesn’t believe the tightness in his right shoulder is cause for concern. But wanting to take precaution, the Braves scratched him from Friday’s scheduled start against the Indians.
…
“I’m not worried,” Smoltz said. “It’s not worth taking any chances right now. I’m smart enough to realize that you don’t pitch through it now. You pitch through it during the season. You don’t really pitch through it during Spring Training.”
Smoltz’s shoulder tightness probably isn’t a big deal, but after Francoeur took a pitch to the face, you can’t be too careful. Baseball cancer is virulent so far this year, and it’s started early.
Also, if he misses a start, it means I have to start Rich “Wild Thing” Hill opening week. It’s gonna be a rough year.
True story: I was contemplating taking Smoltz and said to myself, “Wait, J-Bla had him last year. That means he’s due to get eaten by a bear.”
