Number 60 in Your Programs, Number 1 in Our Hearts

Making the rounds this evening is news that Billy Crystal, director of the vastly underrated 61* and lifetime Yankee fan (despite the troubling presence of a Mets cap in the City Slickers movies), has signed a one-day minor league deal with the Yankees to play in a spring training game. Ostensibly, this means he’ll retire a Yankee, just like Jeff Nelson.
Suzyn Waldman was interviewing Roger Clemens’ old locker when she heard the news:
BILLY CRYSTAL IS IN GEORGE’S BOX AND BILLY CRYSTAL IS COMIN’ BACK. OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS! OF ALL THE DRAMATIC THINGS … OF ALL THE DRAMATIC THINGS I’VE EVER SEEN … BILLY CRYSTAL STANDING RIGHT IN GEORGE STEINBRENNER’S BOX ANNOUNCING HE IS BACK! BILLY CRYSTAL IS A NEW YORK YANKEE!
Crystal will be wearing number 60 in honor of his 60th birthday.
